About
Since our inception in 1950, our founders Alicia Markova and Anton Dolin have been working with an unwavering commitment to excellence and a mission to bring world class ballet to life across our country.
Over the past century, English National Ballet has showcased a unique, diverse repertoire, inspiring audiences with masterpieces created by visionaries including Natalia Makarova, Rudolf Nureyev, Mary Skeaping, Ronald Hynd, Peter Schaufuss, Derek Deane, Christopher Bruce, Pina Bausch, William Forsythe and Akram Khan.
Our vision is to supercharge English National Ballet’s rich creative legacy by preserving the great narratives of classical ballet alongside championing bold innovation. We open up ballet by reviving defining full-length classics and commissioning fresh classical and contemporary interpretations that resonate today. Alongside this, we nurture boundary-pushing choreographic voices and present visionary works from past and present. Through ambitious engagement programmes, from My First Ballet to Ballet Futures and Dance for Parkinson’s, we broaden access, inspire connection, and ensure ballet remains relevant, inclusive, and deeply felt—on stage, online, and beyond.
We are English National Ballet.
And for over 75 years, we’ve been opening doors, curtains and minds. Creating moving, meaningful experiences that take ballet to new places – creatively, emotionally, and physically.
Whether we’re on stage, on screen or online, we are here to open up the possibilities of ballet for everyone, everywhere. In towns, cities, studios and schools – across England and around the world – we connect with more people, in more places, in more ways.
Because the beauty of ballet is you can simply feel it. And whatever you feel, you’re free to feel it here.
Feel more with English National Ballet.
