About

About:

Kristin Koskinen, RDN, LD, CD

My mission is straightforward: to be who I needed and I’ve created my practice to serve my clients to give them what I wish was available to me.

My interest in nutrition began when I was in my teens and a dancer in a pre-professional ballet company. There was a lot of talk about diets and weight loss, but not much understanding about nutrition maximize performance. While in college, I struggled with an eating disorder. I found that the limited resources available to me just didn’t “get it,” and if I wanted to recover, I was going to have to find the solution myself. I redirected my academic pursuits toward finding the answers to the questions I had about how food and nutrition can not only make a better dancer, but the role of nutrition in medicine and healing. I graduated from Pacific Lutheran University with a BS in Biology and a minor in Psychology. After graduation, I was accepted to Drexel University’s graduate program in Human Nutrition and Food Science. I completed her Dietetic Internship at the University of Maryland Medical Center and began my career as a clinical dietitian.

My practice has grown over the years and centers on performance nutrition. My I’m keenly aware of not only the nutritional impact of food, but also the psycho-social components of food, diet, and culture. I work dancers and other artistic athletes, many of whom are hypermobile, which has expanded my practice to include those on the hypermobile spectrum as well as people with concerns about connective tissue recovery.

In addition to my private practice, I contribute to many dance-specific groups that support dancer health including Apolla Performance and The Ellovè Technique. I’m a founding member of DanseMedica, Help4Dancers, and the resident dietitian for Bendy Bodies. I’m an active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, including the Sports, Cardiovascular, and Wellness Dietitians, and the Integrative and Functional Medicine dietetics practice group, and the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science. I’m a frequent guest-lecturer for universities and ballet companies. You can find me on social and real media including Dance Magazine, Pointe Magazine, Dance Spirit, Runners World, Huff Post, Thrive Media, LiveStrong, Today, and NBC, as well as industry-specific podcasts including DanceWell and Bendy Bodies.
