About
Founded in 1984 by Richard Ellner and legendary instructor Frank Hatchett, Broadway Dance Center (BDC) was created as a home for dancers of all levels, offering diverse styles under one roof. From 1984–1998, BDC operated at 1733 Broadway, becoming one of the first drop-in studios to unite ballet, jazz, tap, theater dance, and more. In 1998, BDC relocated to 221 West 57th St. Following Richard Ellner’s passing, his daughter Allison Ellner assumed leadership while Frank Hatchett continued teaching, helping establish BDC as a global dance destination. In 2007, BDC moved to 322 West 45th St. in NYC’s Theater District, expanding in 2012 and opening the Children and Teens School in 2017. After Frank Hatchett’s death in 2013, his legacy continues through his protégés.
