Dr. Liane Simmel is head of the Institute for Dance Medicine, Fit for Dance. For more than three decades, she worked as a dancer and choreographer on European stages. Her interest and enthusiasm for the functioning of the human body led her to medicine. While still in the theatre, she studied human medicine and osteopathy. Today, Liane Simmel works as a resident doctor for sports medicine, dance medicine, osteopathy and spiral dynamics as well as a sports psychology coach. She is a lecturer in dance medicine at the Palucca University of Dance Dresden and the Zurich University of the Arts, among others. She is in demand worldwide as a lecturer on topics related to health in dance.
Liane Simmel is a founding member and was a long-time board member of ta.med, Tanzmedizin Deutschland, the German-speaking organization for dance medicine, whose establishment and development she has significantly influenced. As an advisory member of the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science, IADMS, and Medical Advisor of the Dance Medicine Organisation Monacco, she supports dance medicine internationally. For her pioneering work in dance medicine, she was awarded the Recognition Prize of the German Dance Prize in 2016. Since 2019, Liane Simmel has been a member of the Jury of Freelance Dance Professionals of the Munich Cultural Department. Her books “Dance Medicine in Practice” and “Nutrition for Dancers” have been published in several languages and have established themselves as standard works of dance medicine.
