About
I see my artistic mission in building bridges that connect cultures and countries, in a time when bridges are more likely to be torn down than built. My message: The European Ballet acts as a cultural messenger that unites people without borders
– The artistic director
Founded in 1989 by former Vienna State Opera dancer Michael Fichtenbaum as a private ballet school focused on vocational training. Early performances and the founding of Ballet Jeunesse Hippolyte quickly followed, leading to its integration into St. Pölten’s Music and Art School in 1992. From 1993 onward, collaborations with renowned choreographers and dancers—including Vladimir Malakhov—laid the foundation for international success. In 1997, the Ballet Conservatory and professional training center opened, and the ensemble was renamed Europaballett St. Pölten, positioning the city as a cultural bridge within Europe. Since then, the company has gained international recognition through major competitions, global tours, and acclaimed productions. With the founding of the Theatre of the Ballet in 2011, Europaballett expanded its repertoire and touring activity, becoming a cultural ambassador for Austrian ballet across Europe, Asia, and the Americas.
