The history of this site begins in the 16th century, around 1580, when the parents of the Lord of Berlize bought land on Peter and Bacon Street to build a private mansion. In the 19th century, it became a post office known as “Auberge de l’Aigle d’Or.” Escaping demolition in 1920 thanks to its listed façades, it was abandoned and later used as a hangar, warehouse, or workshop. Sold at auction before World War II, it was acquired by the parents of the current owners, who were tragically deported. Their daughters vowed to restore it, honoring their memory and the building’s heritage. Micheline Carrance founded the dance center here, opening the first room with a classical dance teacher in the early 1970s. Over time, the center expanded to eleven studios—Ravel, Offenbach, Berlioz, Lully, Chopin—and today offers dances from around the world with a high standard that secures its lasting reputation.
